#mondaymotivation : Do you need a ‘dare-to-do-it-Doula’?
Have you ever wondered why it’s difficult to sustain motivation for long?
When I trained with the Institute of Education UCL all training was founded on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs (it’s a shame consecutive UK governments haven’t understood this basic concept) and we focussed the notion of ‘student centred learning’ as encouraging the ‘intrinsic motivations’ of students. We are well into the 21st Century now and it’s time to move into a more progressive pedagogy.
So, why is it difficult for young people & adults alike to sustain motivation for long?
Because ‘motivation’ is nothing more than “the avoidance of unwanted circumstances”
…and once you understand that, you will understand that the story you have perpetuated in your mind ( the narrative told to you by others) i.e. that life is hard and if you want to achieve success it has to be a struggle, is simply not true. You may or may not be, or have been, successful at ‘earning’ money, material wealth, consuming and hoarding more and more things. Yet you do not feel successful, you feel exhausted, depleted of energy, depressed and even in pain.
Let’s unwrap that
What we used to call extrinsic motivation i.e. ‘motivators’ defined by someone outside ourselves, e.g. the government telling you to follow their educational curriculum is a control mechanism, with a very heavy stick ( if your parents don’t get you to school they face fines and imprisonment). This example of extrinsic motivation (motivators outside of yourself) is most definitely “the avoidance of an unwanted circumstances”.
But what we call intrinsic motivators are also very heavily sited in the dense world of ‘carrot and stick’, ‘reward and punishment’. In the adult world motivators such as ‘fear of poverty’ is a great thought to keep us going… striving for more and more money. But whether we are successful in achieving that, or not, we do not feel successful because the ‘motivator’ was not an inspirational goal (unless we really were ‘following our bliss’) but “an avoidance of unwanted circumstances”
In 2025 I’m moving on from content based around the hashtag #MondayMotivation because we are moving into a transformational paradigm encouraging us to manifest in calm stillness, stand in our bliss, be inspired to develop ourselves by shifting our focus everyday away from the “avoidance of unwanted circumstances” into inspired realisation.
I will keep you accountable on your journey away from your struggle to master the art of manifestation into a state of being where, through a path of self developement, a journey of self discovery if you will, you will feel fulfilled by being enabled to truly live, live as the creator of your own life.
Do you need a dare-to-do-it-doula?
Remember: life is an experiential journey. It is meant to be enjoyed.
Remember: you are a divine spirit experiencing your human life.
Remember: you are the creator of your life!
By the way:
for everyone in the UK who voted ‘Brexit’ on the notion of ‘reclaiming your sovereignty’. Closing your borders is not the definition of sovereignty.
The real definition of sovereignty lies in truly understanding that you are the creator of your own life!
